On The Road To Victory.
By Timothy A. Wilson | October 23, 2007
Tomorrow is a big day for Boston its day one of the World Series between the Boston Red Sox and Colorado Rockies a very interesting set of dynamics. The Boston Red Sox who at one time had the legendary Babe Ruth playing for them, and the Rockies who are one of those “new teams” who recently entered into the hallow halls of baseball in 1993 as an expansion team.
There is the usual level of bravado and bragging going on between both states. Most people here in Boston are predicting that the series will be over in four games, some are being generous and saying it will go to five, no one thinks it will go to the full seven games. What some people seem to forget, is that in a three game series the Rockies took 2 out of three.
The Red Sox have a long tradition in baseball and while the Rockies are on their way to building their legacy. However, it’s not the tradition that is of interest here. It’s the dynamics of the Boston team that we need to examine. Consider the make up of this team. There are young and old (relatively speaking) and the in between all coming together for a common goal, the winning of the baseball national championship and another ring. Their manager (and he truly is a manager) understand his players and knows what to say and what not to say to get them motivated. He understands the game and is well versed in his craft.
When the Red Sox won the series in 2004 they started down a path of dismantling what was called the curse (the trading of Babe Ruth to the Yankees) and their never being able to win a world series since 1918. When they win this time (yes I’m on the bandwagon) they will let people know it’s wasn’t a fluke. They will let people know that they are for real and the curse is forever broken.
Go Sox.
