It’s Time to Fire the PC Police

    By TWilson | November 27, 2007

When I’m working, I often listen to talk radio.  There is a particular commentator that gets my ire up especially when he attacks Affirmative Action and Diversity.  On several occasions, I’ve been tempted to call in debate him on the topic.  Instead, I change over to the classical station and calm myself down.

As much as I would like to correct the record, and just when I think I have a valid argument to present, the Political Correctness Police come along, do, and say something foolish.  Consider the following examples:

I can cite many more, but you get the idea.  PC has gone too far.  When I was training individuals on the aspect of valuing differences in the workplace, how to effectively manage diversity, and the why Affirmative Action, Diversity and Valuing Differences were different from each other I would always make this statement: “practicing Affirmative Action and Managing Diversity doesn’t mean you act stupid.”  Much of this PC stuff is just plain stupid with a capital S.

I have to be honest, I get very annoyed when I read something and the writer of the article uses the contrived “he/she” instead of the simple masculine form of the pronoun so as not to offend the female reader.

But not for the PC Police these talk show hosts wouldn’t have the ammunition to shoot holes in Affirmative Action and Diversity.  It’s long past the time to tell the PC Police to cease and desist, enough already you’re doing more harm than good.   TV commentator Bill O’Reilly calls them “secular progressives” and castigates them every chance he gets.  I called them people with nothing better to do and what they’re doing is stupid and a waste of everyone’s time.

As a young boy, I learned a long time ago if you want people to stop call you stupid, you have to stop giving them reasons to keep doing so.   It’s time to fire the PC Police because as long as they are in operation, those who are working hard to advance the legitimate cause of diversity and affirmative action will have to fight needless and stupid battles.
