It’s Family Time – “Let’s Get Ready To Rumble!”
By Timothy A. Wilson | December 21, 2007
Michael Buffer a boxing ring announcer would say that as part of his introduction of many a pugilistic match. Mike Tyson (former heavyweight champion) enjoyed the way he introduced a fight that he insisted on Buffer as the ring announcer or he wouldn’t fight.
When families get together during this time of year for whatever reason, someone feels the need to bring up something that is sure to upset some member of the family. Perhaps it is a supposed slight, a dig at someone’s weight, or the fact they don’t like the person’s girlfriend or boyfriend whatever it turns out to be there is very little “peace on earth and good tidings to men.”
Many don’t look forward to this time of year. I’ve often wondered why so many individuals tie themselves up in knots and look with great consternation at the thought of getting together for “the holidays.” So many people suffer from anxiety and depression around this time of year and yes, for many families Mr. Buffer might as well be there uttering his famous “let’s get ready to rumble” as a number of fights between family members erupt.
So for all of out there who are getting ready for the holidays with your family and may be dreading it, because of past miscues, and supposed slights, or unintentional insults I offer this advice, “forget about it.” There is no need to take it personal these people are your family. They may make you mad for the moment, but let it pass. Remember, its family time not rumble time.
Enjoy your holidays.
